Total Yacht Repair and Restoration

In addition to the many custom yachts we've built here at Bennett Brothers, we have also made many keel-up restorations that have incorporated our various talents, included structural repairs, new paint, new engines, total rewiring and electronics, and extensive carpentry work.

The 67' aluminum sloop Illusion was one of our signature projects. She was battered on a local beach in May 2007, after losing engine and steering during a severe storm.

During the next 14 months we gave her a complete makeover. After structural repairs were made, the boat was sandblasted down to bare metal and the boat was primed, faired, and finished by our paint crew. “Craftsmanship” barely describes the character of the work, as most people today mistake Illusion for a fiberglass boat.

Our mechanical shop repowered Illusion with a D4 Volvo Penta diesel, added a new Northern Lights genset, installed a SidePower bow thruster and re-plumbed most of the black and gray water systems.

Rigging repairs and upgrades included new sails, the complete replacement of running and standing rigging, including the addition of Bamar electric headsail furlers, replacement of the electric in-mast furler, installation of deck organizers and cam cleats, and renovation of the existing power winches and backstay tensioners.

Extensive rewiring was also done. Every light on the boat, interior and exterior, was replaced with LED fixtures from Imtra Lighting. The addition of LED navigation lights from Orca Green Marine make Illusion a 100% LED lighted vessel.

New Electronics were also installed. KVH satellite system, Raymarine navigation and radar, AIS ship tracking, XM weather, a dedicated ship's PC, and a complete A/V entertainment system were added, to name a few.

Although much of the interior was not damaged, our carpentry department removed large portions to gain access for structural repairs.

After careful replacement, many modifications were made per owner request, such as new headliner panels throughout the boat, extensive galley and nav station modifications, and granite countertops. Nearly all of the interior woodwork was revarnished using Epifanes rubbed effect varnish. Cockpit safey was increased through the fabrication of a custom teak deck.
